Food for Thought - Philosophy Breakfast
The Summer course group enjoyed some intriguing and lively discussions - information on the autumn course will be posted in this space.

Our Philosophy Breakfast course has been a roaring success, and we are currently running the fourth course. One of the group was so overcome by it all that she threw her arms around me as I entered the shed with the coffee and croissants and said she couldn't begin to describe how much she loved the whole thing! Colin Phillips has led the breakfasts with immense wisdom and patience while the brains slowly ground into gear to try to follow some extremely complex ideas. BOOKSHOP NAMED AMONG THE BEST!
We're the tops! Well, almost.... Here at the bookshop we are delighted and very flattered to be shortlisted for the national 'Independent Bookseller of the Year' award at the Bookseller Retail Awards.
Ginny says "We have put in a lot of effort over the past year to make Wivenhoe Bookshop a vibrant and exciting place to be and a real hub of the community through our Philosophy Breakfast, our award-winning reading groups, the popular Over the Sofa gallery and lively children's events"
The judges say their attention was caught by the well-stocked shelves, the website, and the gallery, and they have been very impressed with the activities run for our customers, including the new weekly knitting group Woolly Thoughts. They were also liked the shop's new publishing venture, 'Wivenbooks' , which will shortly be releasing a collection of the best entries from the Wivenhoe Poetry Prize 2008, set up in conjunction with poetrywivenhoe.
We all say that what impresses us most is the loyalty and loveliness of our fantastic customers! Thank you so much - we couldn't do it without you!
The winner will be announced at the Awards Dinner on September 18th at the Natural History Museum in London. |
